Filming Loki Season 2 Reportedly Begins

Tom Hiddleston and company will reportedly begin filming season 2 of Marvel Studios’ Loki next month. Last year, the Marvel Cinematic Universe made its way to Disney+ with shows like Loki, which dove into the multiverse by following Avengers: Endgame’s version of Hiddleston’s God of Mischief after being arrested by the Time Variance Authority (TVA). Rather than be pruned, Loki was recruited by Agent Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson) to catch the Goddess of Mischief, Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino). With scripts by Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness scribe Michael Waldron, director Kate Herron’s six-episode Loki season 1 introduced audiences to the concept of variants, and alternate timelines and universes. After it’s revealed that the TVA’s Time-Keepers are nothing but mindless androids, Loki’s season 1 finale brought its heroes face-to-face with the TVA’s true mastermind: He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors), a variant of the comic book character Kang the Conqueror aka Nathaniel Richards. Sylvie and Loki were left with two options: kill him, liberate the Sacred Timeline, unleash infinite devils, or take over He Who Remains’ work. In line with her character, Sylvie’s dagger unleashed the multiversal madness that Marvel boss Kevin Feige himself has said is responsible for the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange 2. Loki’s post-credits scene showed a case file, stamped with the words “Loki will return in season 2.” Now, it’s been revealed that production will begin next month in the UK.

The Film & Television Industry Alliance’s productionlist.com recently updated the production page for Loki season 2 to include a start date. Season 2 is set to begin filming on Monday, June 6 at Pinewood Studios in London, England, which lines up with previous comments made by Hiddleston and Wilson teasing a summer start date. While it’s unknown how long production will last, Loki season 1 was filmed over four months in the Fall of 2020. That said, season 2 could wrap by September. Herron will not return for Loki season 2. Instead, Moon Knight’s Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead will take over directorial duties with Eric Martin replacing Waldron as head writer. The MCU’s multiversal mastermind, Waldron, has teased projects like Doctor Strange 2 inform Loki’s season 2, which will cover new, emotional ground. Plot details are of course being kept under wraps. However, Wilson, Hiddleston, Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku’s Hunter B-15, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s Ravonna Renslayer are all expected to return. Loki’s season 1 finale ended with its titular trickster staring at a statue of Kang in a TVA where Mobius and B-15 had no memory of him.
