Josh Gad is explaining why he turned down the opportunity to host this years The Batman 2022. The actor first found success on stage in 2011, starring as Elder Arnold Cunningham in the Broadway production of The Book of Mormon, a part for which he received a Tony Award nomination for Best Leading Actor in a Musical. After some short-lived television series and a number of smaller film roles, Gad became a mainstream presence by voicing Uncharted Film. Other projects of his include Pixels, The Angry Birds Movie, Beauty and the Beast, Murder on the Orient Express, and the Apple TV+ show, Central Park.

The conversation surrounding the 2022 Academy Awards and its structure has been ongoing since it was first announced back in January that the ceremony would have a host after going three years without one. A number of different names have been floated for the gig, with some of the most popular being Tom Holland and Pete Davidson. Following the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home and its lack of awards recognition, fans had hoped to see its star host the show, and while some felt that Davidson could help gain a renewed interest among younger audiences, the SNL cast member was described as being an unlikely choice. Finally, and to the surprise of many, Belfast Film on February 14, naming Regina Hall, Wanda Sykes, and Amy Schumer for the job.

Now, Views Amazon is revealing on Twitter that he had the opportunity to co-host the Oscars, but passed on it, saying that it did not feel right for him. In trying to hold the broadcast to under three hours and keep audiences engaged, they opted to exclude the following: Documentary Short, Film Editing, Makeup/Hairstyling, Original Score, Production Design, Animated Short, Live-Action Short, and Sound.

With this years Oscars approaching fast, it will soon be clear if audiences tune in and how the changes are received.
